New Mexico has served as the
backdrop for many famous films, not only those turned into movies for
the big screen but those for television, including a few miniseries.
Following is Barb Tomlin's compilation
of films from The Internet Movie Database
for which New Mexico served as a shooting location for some or all of
the project. It does not include films never finished or not released
for distribution. The first motion picture documented as having been
filmed in New Mexico was filmed and released prior to New Mexico being
accepted into the United States ofAmerica. It was a black and white
silent documentary on Indian children attending school. Titled Indian
Day School, Filmed on location at the Isleta Pueblo, Indian Day
School was produced by Thomas Alva Edison and released in 1898.
